Townsville continues to be treacherous for Tim Slade and Freightliner Racing. After a great start by Tim he had charged forward to sit inside the top 15. Just as the drivers were approaching the final turn on lap 3, Fabian Coulthard dived to the inside and used Slade as his brake marker, spinning him around and putting him down to 26th position. Coulthard later received a time penalty for the incident.

The team turned to strategy in an effort to get Tim back in the race to fight for position, however Tim reported engine issues which forced him to retire on the inside of turn 13 on lap 29. It has been a fair battle for the team this weekend, unfortunately being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. The team will regroup at the workshop later this week, then have their second test day of the season between now and the Ipswich event.
